IS MY BRAIN BROKEN?

I’ll be 24 in two days.
I feel old.
When it comes to tech, I sometimes feel like my brain is broken. I know that’s not true, but it’s the only way I’ve been able to explain this frustration.
I officially began my journey into becoming a web developer on 18/03/23. The first two months were intense. Then I travelled and took about 5–6 weeks off. I picked it up again from June to September 2023 — then went cold. I took the whole of 2024 off and only resumed in January 2025, since when I’ve been moderately consistent.
Looking at that timeline now, it’s obvious: I haven’t earned the right to be frustrated by my lack of a real breakthrough.
Still, I go on YouTube and watch people claim they became proficient in a language in 2 weeks or a month. It marvels me that others can do it while I feel like I’ve spent half my life trying to learn JavaScript. That’s when the question creeps in: “Is my brain broken?”
If you’re reading this, you might feel like your brain is broken too. But before you decide that, ask yourself: Have you truly been committed to learning that skill you want so badly? Or have you just been an on-and-off visitor?
If the skill you’re chasing was a person, and you courted them the way you’ve been “courting” your learning… would they be impressed?
